About Mary Beth Haines, Ph.D.
Clients marvel that Mary Beth can make the abstract concrete. She takes things that sound esoteric and unsubstantial and makes them part of everyday experiential understanding. One client said that “Mary Beth has an uncanny way of writing just what you want to convey to the powers that be, as if she is reading your thoughts--cool!”
Mary Beth started successfully helping others with their dissertation work years before she finished her own dissertation. At one point during her education she was asked by a friend “Mary Beth, when will you do your own work, stop helping others and finish?”
Mary Beth did complete her Ph.D. in 1999. Her graduate work and the work of those she has assisted have all been with APA standards for writing. She has worked with the last 3 APA manuals for style, so has experience with the requirements for thesis and dissertation work, which differ slightly from requirements for published papers.
With more than 25 years working in mental health, Mary Beth has honed her ability to hear not only what was said but what was underneath the words to get to the heart of a matter. Her background also includes working with people with disabilities, physical and emotional, working with people who were gaining familiarity with English language usage, and working in a variety of teaching settings.
Her experiences together strengthened her ability to hear and understand someone, then help translate what she heard from the one person into language that another person or entity could also understand. This doesn’t mean she has a gift with different languages, but with different meaning frameworks, thinking and learning styles, and experiential contexts.
Mary Beth incorporates the same energy techniques she used for dramatic results with counseling clients. These techniques specifically foster increased concentration, ability to focus, stress reduction, and clearing scrambled thinking. Some help with confidence and removing mental or emotional blocks, making this a natural for working with harried and stress-filled graduate students trying to push for completion of their projects in a limited time frame.
Her clients say Mary Beth listens well, is able to sift, analyze, and synthesize material, presenting it in a way that’s easy to follow.
